Watro, Argall Announce $500,000 in Funding for Schuylkill County Municipal Water and Sewer Projects

January 20, 2026

HAZLETON – Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) today announced $500,000 in PA Small Water and Sewer Program grants have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for several Schuylkill County municipalities.

“Investing in our water and wastewater infrastructure isn’t just about pipes and pumps. It’s about public health, economic vitality and long-term sustainability for our communities,” said Watro. “These grants will modernize critical systems, ensuring cleaner water, safer wastewater treatment and stronger foundations for future growth. Upgrading local infrastructure supports both everyday quality of life and opens the door for new development in our region.”

The following funds have been awarded:

• The Municipal Authority of the Borough of Ringtown will receive a $212,416 grant to make improvements to its wastewater treatment plant.
• The Mahanoy Township Authority will receive an $89,250 grant to replace old controllers for the water filtration system at the authority’s existing water treatment plant.
• The Mahanoy City Sewer Authority will receive a $198,334 grant to complete a project to replace five aeration blowers and improve other equipment at its wastewater treatment plant.

“Improved water infrastructure is very much needed in so many of our communities,” said Argall. “These highly competitive state funds are very important.”

The PA Small Water and Sewer Program authorizes the Commonwealth Financing Authority to award grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, storm water and flood control projects with a cost of not less than $30,000 and not more than $500,000. The funding can be used to assist with the construction, improvement, expansion, or rehabilitation or repair of a water supply system, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system or flood control projects.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
