Watro, Argall Announce $647,000 in Funding for Luzerne County Municipalities
May 21, 2025
HAZLETON – Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) today announced roughly $647,000 in Local Share Account funds have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for three Luzerne County municipalities.
“It doesn’t matter the municipality, there are always going to be needs to maintain and improve local infrastructure as well as ensure the right work vehicles for the job are available,” said Watro. “This funding – derived from gaming revenues – allows our local communities to make the purchases and improvements they need to make without having to ask taxpayers for more money.”
The following funds have been awarded:
• Hazle Township - $98,155 for the purchase of a new dump truck, and $250,000 for improvement to the township’s sewer system.
• Hazleton City - $84,932 for a multipurpose vehicle to be used by the city’s Department of Public Works, and $189,999 to make renovations to the Southside, Diamond #2, and 14th Ward #5 fire stations.
• West Hazleton Borough - $273,900 for improvements to Fourth Street.
“This highly competitive funding will support the critical work of our local first responders and improve the operations of local municipalities,” said Argall. “I’m grateful to have excellent partners in Rep. Watro and all the municipal leaders and community volunteers who worked with us to secure these dollars.”
Local Share Account funds are generated by the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 71 of 2004), which provides for distributing gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within Pennsylvania.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
