HARRISBURG – Twenty-four fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 116th Legislative District were collectively awarded nearly $406,000 in funding support through the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) and Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) announced today.
“We are grateful for our hardworking and dedicated first responders, who do an amazing job protecting lives and property in communities across the region,” said Watro. “This annual program provides some much-needed financial assistance so they can continue providing their life-saving services.”
“I’m thankful so many local fire and EMS companies were awarded these highly competitive funds,” said Argall. “These grants are well-deserved and will help our brave first responders with their critically important and dangerous jobs.”
The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue.
The local grants are as follows:
Luzerne County
• Borough of West Hazleton Fire Department - $14,034.
• East End Engine and Hose Company No. 3 - $14,618.
• Fourteenth Ward Fire Company - $13,840.
• Greater Hazleton Ambulance LLC - $15,000.
• Harwood Fire Company - $13,840.
• Hazle Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company - $16,952.
• Hazleton City Fire Department - $16,952.
• Hazleton Heights Volunteer Fire Company - $14,034.
• Pioneer Fire Company No. 1 - $14,618.
• West Hazleton Fire Hose Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 - $14,034.
Schuylkill County
• Citizens Fire Company 2 - $15,007.
• Good American Hose Company No. 3 - $13,256.
• Heights Fire Company No. 1 - $13,256.
• Phoenix Fire Company No. 2 - $13,840.
• Shenandoah Community Ambulance Association - $45,000.
• Sheppton Oneida Volunteer Fire Company - $14,229.
• Rescue Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 - $15,396.
• William Penn Fire Company No. 1 - $14,229.
• Humane Fire Company No. 1 - $13,062.
• Washington Hook and Ladder No. 1 - $14,229.
• West End Fire and Rescue - $15,201.
• McAdoo Fire Company Inc. - $42,952.
• McAdoo Fire Company Inc. and Ambulance Association - $15,000.
• Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Company - $13,256.
Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.
The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC before July 1.
