HARRISBURG – Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne) attended a joint session of the General Assembly today during which Gov. Josh Shapiro presented his state budget proposal for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Watro issued the following statement in reaction to the governor’s $48.3 billion spending plan:
“The governor’s address is always the start of the annual budget process and I now look forward to working with my House colleagues in crafting a spending plan that moves Pennsylvania forward without placing a heavier burden on taxpayers.
“Although I have some concern about the amount of new spending the governor is proposing, I am hopeful we can take a bipartisan approach in the months ahead in developing a reasonable and responsible state budget.”
The House Appropriations Committee will conduct a series of hearings starting Tuesday, Feb. 20, to examine the details of the governor’s plan and how state departments and agencies are spending their funding. The General Assembly and governor face a June 30 deadline to finalize the budget.
