HARRISBURG– Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) is pleased to announce his assignments to the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness and Local Government committees.
“I am incredibly thankful and excited for the opportunity to serve on these important committees,” said Watro. “I believe my previous career and real-life experiences will prove valuable to the success of each of these committees.
“I look forward to working with members of the committee and each of the chairmen to advance policies that benefit Pennsylvanians.”
“As chairman, I am pleased to welcome Rep. Dane Watro to the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee,” said Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks). “His extensive and impressive military background will aid in advancing policy to support our state and national security goals.”
Watro enlisted in the U.S Army in 1995. He was stationed at the Korean Demilitarized Zone and later at Ft. Hood, Texas.
When Operation Iraqi Freedom began, Watro felt compelled to re-enlist. After training at Fort Dix in New Jersey, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, where he served until March 2005. During his tour, he was selected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to be a part of the American unit guarding Saddam Hussein. He received commendations for his part in combating international terrorism.
While on active duty, he studied criminal justice at Central Texas College and worked with troubled youth at the Correctional Service Corporation.
Watro also served as Mayor of McAdoo for eight years and looks forward to using this extensive experience within the Local Government Committee.
